Interview excerpts on the topic of "communality"

The interview excerpts provided here draw from biographical interviews that were conducted during the GDR, shortly after the GDR and up to 20 years after reunification and were subsequently analysed as a so-called secondary analysis as part of a study by the University of Hildesheim.

The people interviewed were born between the late 1920s and the early 1980s. In some cases, up to three interviews were conducted with the same people, a few years apart. The biographies outlined by the interviewees in almost all cases included educational experiences in schools and children's and youth organisations such as the Young Pioneers (Junge Pioniere) and the Free German Youth (Freie Deutsche Jugend, FDJ). Specifically interviews conducted after the end of the GDR reveal a community theme that is primarily associated with extracurricular educational organizations.
