Educational film "Geiger Müller Counter II. Commissioning and Application" (1964)

There are two educational films about the Geiger Müller counter (Geiger-Müller-Zählrohr), published by the German Central Institute for Teaching Materials in the GDR (Deutsches Zentralinstut für Lehrmittel, DZL), which were intended for use in tenth grade physics lessons. The first film illustrates and explains components of the Geiger counter and their function. The second film shows how to operate and use the counter.

The second film shown here, which is just over seven minutes long, features adults and white mice. It demonstrates different scenarios in laboratory research, military and medicine contexts are demonstrated. Most of the characters wear white coats and are thus visually identified as doctors or laboratory technicians. In one scene, a soldier of the National People's Army (Nationale Volksarmee, NVA) of the GDR in combat uniform and gas mask scans a military vehicle with a Geiger counter (Geiger-Müller-Zählrohr). Physics lessons were intended to prepare boys for their military service. Only one person is shown in a more individual way in the film. It is a young woman dressed in dark clothing with beautifully styled hair. While she is being medically examined by doctors in the picture, the commentator in the voiceover refers to her as a 'patient'
